Free Blog Giveaways from GiveawayBlogs.com

Hello, I am currently considering a transfer from Blogger to Wordpress and needed some help with the process. We currently have a domain name and web host that we would like to move onto the Wordpress platform. We have also found the exact same custom template of our current site on Wordpress. The issue is adding that template to our Wordpress account, which we have already set up, so that we can have a seamless transition.

If there is anyone out there that can help me with this, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.

You can unzip and upload using FTP or go to appearance > Upload Theme in zip format in the wordpress admin.

Once it is uploaded, you can choose to activate it from the wordpress appearance>themes
Can I know that what u want to know, How to add that wordpress theme or how to transfer blogger blog on wordpress?
Have you finished doing this yet? I think it is pretty easy to upload content from another blog into WordPress - I love using WP. ~ Diane
Its easy to upload your theme. go to your admin panel in wordpress and go to themes upload new and activate.

Wordpress is really great ims ure you willfind that its much better
Do you mean if I go to wordpress.com and i try to manage themes there? If so, I cannot see any "upload theme" button anywhere in that section. As for installing wordpress.org on my computer, I have no idea how to do it. And I've read the instructions various times.
Are you still working on this? I'm confused a bit. Are you simply worried about the theme of the site looking the same or the actual transfer to Wordpress without losing subscribers or your site going down for a long period of time?

If it's the transfer, do you have a Blogger Blog with a domain name you've purchased (and where did you purchase it) or do you still have the blogspot domain? If you have a domain through Blogger, have you transferred the domain name from whoever you bought it to your hosting company? Also, are you moving to Wordpress.com or Wordpress.org? You've mentioned both and they are different. If Wordpess.org, who is your hosting company? And finally, do you have subscribers through Feedburner or some other feed service?
I am still working this. Here's a brief summary to answer all your questions:

I am trying to transfer my Blogger blog to Wordpress. The issue I am encountering is how to use Wordpress.org. The main reason I would use ".org" over ".com" is because I want to upload the same custom template I have on Blogger (which I recently found a wordpress version). I don't understand the whole process of downloading wordpress.org onto your computer. That is where I need the most help. As for my domain, I do own a domain that I purchased via Google, which offers hosting. Finally, I use feedburner for my subscription service.

Hopefully this can help you answer my dilemma :)
I'm probably not going to be much help. I moved my own site. I'm a computer minor and it was HARD. You need to purchase hosting from a company such as GoDaddy or Host Gator where you have access to the host site. Google hosts your domain name, but blogger hosts your site. You will need somewhere to host Wordpress on the internet. Then go download Wordpress.org onto your computer, unzip it, and upload it to your host company through your FTP. Some hosts will auto-install it with as simple click, so you don't have to download and upload. Some hosts will let you design your entire Wordpess before it goes live, but others will require you to change your domain and go live before you can edit. Your site will go down. Honestly, I wish I'd paid someone, because it's common to lose subscribers and take your site down during the process.
Hi, I hope I'm not too late.

If you're using WordPRess.org, you need to go to the download page and download the zip file. Unzip it onto your computer. Open it up and open "config-sample.php" in your text editor. Notepad will work. Replace the database name, username, password and SQL location. Your host can provide you with this info if you do not know it. Rename this file to "config.php."

Then you need to access your host either by using an FTP Program (I suggest FileZilla) or logging into your hosting control panel in your browser. Find the File Manager there (I can't tell you exactly where it is because I don't know what CP software your host uses but both CPanel and H-Sphere have an icon on the index).

If you don't know your FTP info, simply ask your host but typically it's [your username], [your password] and the server is ftp.[yourdomain.com]. If you connect via FTP, you'll need to find the directory where your PUBLIC html goes. It may be [yourdomain.com/] OR "www" or "public_html." Again, your host can verify these things.

Now it's time to upload. I HIGHLY suggest using a folder such as "wp" or "wordpress" to keep your base directory clean but you can choose. Upload all the files and folders in your unzipped WordPress folder. If using FTP, simply open the folder, select all files and click and drag them into the "Remote" pane in your FTP client. It'll take a few moments to upload.

If you used a separate folder for the files, such as "wp," you'll want to upload "index.php" to your main HTML directory, not "wp." You will also need to edit "index.php" in your editor and change the url of "../wp-admin" "../wp/wp-admin."

Load "install.php" in the "wp-admin" folder in your browser. It'll be http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin/install.php OR, if you took my advice: http://yourdomain.com/wp/wp-admin/install.php. Enter the info it wants. It'll take you to the dashboard.

If you use the separate directory, click the General Settings link on the sidebar. Enter the location of the WP files (http://yourdomain.com/wp) in the WordPress address field and enter the location of your website (http://yourdomain.com) as the Site address.

Now you can add the theme in two different ways. If it's in the themes directory, you can click Themes under Appearance and search for it. Just click the "Install" button. If you downloaded the zip file from another site, go to Themes, click Upload and upload the zip file.

Oh, you'll look for Import under the Tools section to import. There's an option for Blogger, just follow the instructions.
